The Southern Territory's Territorial Music Institute, otherwise known as TMI, is an 8-day intensive music & creative arts camp held annually at the end of each summer. TMI has an established history of producing quality music and creative arts leaders across the Southern Territory and around the world. The camp features a wide range of brass band, instrumental, vocal, creative arts instruction, and a variety of music and arts leadership seminars. TMI has been blazing the trail for Salvation Army music and creative arts leadership and instruction globally. Special guests for this year's course are Bandmaster John and Julie Lam from the Canadian Staff Band and the London (Ontario) Citadel Band.

BRITISH BRASS BAND CONCERT

Fort Benning's Maneuver Center of Excellence Band and Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music will again join forces to present a program of traditional British style brass band music on Sunday, August 24th at 4 p.m. This free concert will be held in The River Center's Legacy Hall and feature guest euphonium soloist Demondrae Thurman. Mr. Thurman is a Professor of Music at Samford University and has an international reputation as a virtuoso on the euphonium. The performance is the culmination of an intense three day workshop for university students and Soldier musicians led by the conductor of Atlanta's Georgia Brass Band, Joe Johnson. The previous brass band concert, in January of this year, was enthusiastically received by a capacity audience - so be sure to get there early for a good seat to enjoy this exciting program.

This instrumental competition is part of a larger festival involving high school musicians and choirs from around the country competing in group or solo categories as well other fine art categories such as Art & Design, Speech & Drama, Culinary Arts and Preaching. This is a great opportunity to receive valuable feedback, attend band rehearsals and get advice from college level music faculty.

The COLUMBUS YOUTH BRASS BAND

in cooperation with The Brass Band Academy

The Columbus Youth Brass Band is a unique opportunity for aspiring area high school brass and percussion students to experience the challenge and excitment of playing in an authentic British brass band. The mission of the CYBB is to develop the talents of its members and promote a high standard of musical training and performance using the traditional British brass band model. Personnel will be selected by audition from area high schools with the cooperation and support of their school's band director. A conductor and support staff of students from the Schwob School of Music plus professional musicians from Ft. Bennning's Army Band, will provide CYBB members with instrumental instruction, coaching and mentoring on all aspects of practice and performance techniques. Auditions will take place in November with weekly rehearsals starting in January 2017 and ending with a final course concert in May. Watch this site for more details.
This weekend event hosts solo competitions at the high school, college and adult levels as well as master classes and brass band concerts. Also featured are well known international performers, clinicians and conductors from the world of brass bands.

NORTH AMERICAN BRASS BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

The North American Brass Band Championships are held each spring and are a gathering of British style brass bands from across the United States and Canada. In 2016 there were 34 groups present in five different skill levels from high school youth bands to advanced adult bands who perform at the very highest professional standards. There is also a solo and ensemble contest that is part of this event. A panel of judges evaluate each performance and give it a score to determine the top band in each section. The North American Brass Band Champions for 2016 are the Fountain City Brass Band from Kansas City, Missouri.
